The Francis Tuttle Foundation is a non-profit formed by Francis Tuttle Technology Center to help students find financial aid. Established over 20 years ago, the foundation is not only funded by private contributors but also by Francis Tuttle's own employees. We love a school that's dedicated to its own students, but we were particularly excited about this project because each of the Studio FJ employees working on this project were former Francis Tuttle students. (We made sure to note this in the website footer.)
When the foundation board president approached us their web presence consisted of a single page, lost in the sea of Francis Tuttle academic information.The challenge was to take this single page on the Francis Tuttle website and create a full-blown website…without the use of standard, cheesy stock photography. For the record, Studio FJ hates stock photography.
We also needed to make all their scholarship forms available online, allowing the website to walk students through what they qualified for and how to apply. The balance was tricky: too little information and we would create mass panic at the foundation office from confused students seeking shelter. Too much information, and students would ignore the website - creating mass panic and seeking shelter.
To avoid cheesy stock photography we opted to collect statistics from the last five years and create infographics based on the amount of money the foundation received and the number of scholarships given. By focusing on five years at a glance, we gave the site some longevity.
Most important, however, was to give potential donors a human face to a very heartfelt organization. We did this by showcasing student success stories and utilizing photography shot on Francis Tuttle's campus. The new site is bright with colorful infographics in a well-thought-out responsive design.
A small part of the board was designated to oversee the web project, so we were a little nervous when it came time to show full board, which didn't happen until the site was complete. But the response was great and the board approved the site first round. Thanks to the Francis Tuttle Foundation for working with us and thanks to Francis Tuttle Technology Center for all you do!
